Studio
I've been on a work vacation for the past 3 + months but all of that is coming to a close. I'll be setting up the Victoria Studio/Apartment in under a week which is exciting... It'll be great to be back in the city, and I have many new projects and art to post once the dust has settled.
Posting, working and refining
Lately I've been doing some form of art on a daily basis to keep things moving and to avoid any dry spells. Currently I'm working on some more spontaneous brushwork and experimenting with materials. In the next few weeks I'll be setting up a physical gallery space on beautiful Pender Island, B.C. Photos of the space will be posted as soon as it's set up.
Cherry Branches
Something new and different. I'm working on some rag-like watercolour paper and re-learning some brush technique. -M
A quote by Takao.
"…the views I favour are the grey mists, the rain-obscured islands and the clouds that hide the details. However much we desire order and clarity in all the details of our lives, there are always unexpected events that cloud and change our course. Life is ragged. The typical weather of the coast is like that, just enough detail to make it interesting but not so clear as to be banal or overwhelming. It can be a metaphor for life.'"
- Takao Tanabe, in an artist's statement of Oct. 12, 1999
Small Islands, acrylic on canvas
In the last few days I've been trying out some liquid acrylics.. This is a new painting that still needs a little tweaking but I thought I'd post it. Next up is my first large canvas... Not sure what the exact dimensions are, but it's about 2' by 3 1/2'. Time to go get a bigger brush. -M
Spring
Spring is coming and for me it has always been a time of change and action. The site will finally be creeping onto its feet this month. Art will be posted. I'll try to blog on a more regular basis too. Right now this site will mainly be a personal gallery. I have been posting stuff on my facebook account but figured this would be more professional and have more content. I'll most likely be posting at least weekly. Time to up the output! Woo..
